Company Profile
Mylan New Zealand Limited is part of the international group Mylan of the USA, the third largest generics and specialty pharmaceutical company in the world.
Mylan Inc., which provides products to customers in more than 140 countries and territories, ranks among the leading diversified generic and specialty pharmaceutical companies in the world. The company maintains one of the industry’s broadest – and highest quality – product portfolios, supported by a robust product pipeline; owns a controlling interest in the world’s third largest active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturer; and operates a specialty business focused on respiratory and allergy therapies.
Mylan New Zealand began its commercial operations back in 1977 from a small office and warehouse in Newmarket, as a pharmaceutical distributor under its original name Pacific Pharmaceuticals Ltd. As demand steadily built a manufacturing site was established in 1980 at Mt Wellington.
The company grew from strength to strength expanding its manufacturing facilities. Administration and warehouse facilities were relocated to accommodate the burgeoning business.
A penicillin plant was built in 1986 as a self contained and separate facility to manufacture penicillin products for the Australian, European, South East Asian and New Zealand markets. To accommodate the ever-increasing volumes of penicillin, a new packing facility was built.
In 1994, a cream and liquids plant was constructed. By now Pacific Pharmaceuticals had become a market leader in the manufacturing and distribution of high quality generic pharmaceuticals and consumer products.
Since 2006 Pacific Pharmaceuticals has been restructuring its manufacturing division, transferring production to quality manufacturers abroad. Restructuring was completed in 2008. Pacific Pharmaceuticals today is one of New Zealand's largest pharmaceutical companies and effectively poised to respond to changes in the tender market environment. Pacific Pharmaceuticals consumer division complements the off-patent medicines with a range of high quality over-the-counter products. A pharmacy representative team and ongoing marketing initiatives support the over-the-counter products.
In 2007 Pacific Pharmaceuticals became apart of the Mylan family and in 2009 in line with relocation from the facilities in Mt Wellington to its new location the name of Pacific Pharmaceuticals Limited was changed to Mylan New Zealand Limited to reflect the new company ownership.
